There are 3 points that can make the medium.com desktop version better in user and design view points.

  1. Story once read, goes back to the start of the page

As I scroll down the page for more feed, I tend to open one of the stories that might interest me down the page. Once I’m done with reading the story, I would want to go back to the page exactly where I clicked on the story, So that it gives me an edge to continue further.

Currently, The page returns back to the first story of the page as displayed in the GIF. As a user, It is slightly disappointing to keep scrolling down the page where I left last time. It fails to give user the engagement required when the process is repetitive.

2. No way to move back to the top

If I have managed to scroll quiet down the page about 50 article beyond, There is no way to return to the start of the page without using the scroll bar. It is easier for the user if the scroll to top arrow is provided.

3. Uniformity across the site (design view point)

When we hit the more section from the header bar and select any of the interesting topic, The topics listed in that particular page shows up different from the topics listed in the the other pages. See the difference below

card structure in forge page

Card structure is common across the pages even though there are small variants in the design.

More section, design

In the more section, Design topic is selected. We see design pattern in small sections where the readability is bit lost. There is abundance of white space that is being wasted to the right of articles. It looks better by maintaining the uniformity across website and utilizing the whites pace improves the readability.

4. Improve on notification. Both mobile and desktop application has the same problem where the notification is not upto date. The number of clap and number of people with likes do not match instantly. It takes it’s own sweet time.
